Always on Duty - Rehoboth Bay
Saturday, June 12, 2010

Members of the Delaware City Fire Company and their families were looking forward to a relaxing day, spending time with friends and family on the water, boating and swimming in the Rehoboth Bay. While enroute to shore to pick up some of their friends they came upon an overturned sailboat that had been operated by an older couple. First to come upon the boat was Craig Costango, who informed the couple that help was at hand and then Craig turned to Jim Watson and Jay Dennis to inform them that there was a problem. After relaying the information to Jim & Jay (Jim then radioed the Coast Guard to let them know of the situation), Craig jumped in the water and assisted the female to Jim's personal pontoon boat and safety. Meanwhile, Jay had jumped in the water and assisted the male to the safety of Jim's pontoon boat. While this rescue was taking place, Tori Watson were keeping a safety zone, on her jet ski, around the area in which the rescue was being conducted. Jim brought the couple to shore, where they remarked to the friends on shore - what heroes these guys were. After delivering the couple to shore, Brandon Costango, transported them to the marina where there vehicle was and where the boat was being towed to. After the couple was rescued, Brett Neel, Jay Dennis and Craig Costango tried to turn the sail boat upright was proved to be unsuccessful. With great manuvering Craig Costango was able to tow the sailboat to shore with a duck boat. Great Job to all involved!!
