Fireboat 15 Saves Two On Christmas Eve
Saturday, December 24, 2022

On the evening of Christmas eve, in treacherous conditions, Fireboat 15 saved 2 mariners from their damaged boat in the Delaware River.  At 6:41pm, in freezing cold conditions, Fireboat 15 and 18 Marine 1 (Goodwill), along with Trooper 4 and New Jersey units, were dispatched to the Delaware River in the area of the Hope Creek Generating Station for a watercraft in distress.  It was reported that a 40' vessel had lost steering, striking a channel marker and then running around on the jetty with 2 people on board.  Overcoming frozen buckets and throttles, little visibility, and a layer of ice forming on everything exposed to the elements, Fireboat 15 crew was able to maneuver alongside the vessel and take the two crew members on board in less than an hour.  They were uninjured and were safely transported back to Delaware City.  Great teamwork by Trooper 4 (locating the vessel and guiding FB15 in), 18 Marine 1 battling the conditions in an open hulled boat, and the crew of Fireboat 15 to bring this incident to a successful conclusion.
