Cognitive Abilities Training and New Kits
Tuesday, April 16, 2024

Last night we welcomed Elizabeth Brode to DCFC to give a presentation entitled, "The Victims We Encounter". She is an Associate Counselor of Mental Health, a graduate student at Liberty University, a first responder, and a veteran. She works as an educator and resource provider to at risk families throughout the state of Delaware and is a volunteer with Action for Delaware's Children.

This important class covered cognitive abilities including Autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Responding to emergencies involving children with varying levels of cognitive abilities can be challenging for first responders. Recognizing this, DCFC committed to further educating our providers and outfitted both of our ambulances with Carter Kits - Sensory Bags. Carter Kits™ Sensory Bags contain clinically proven items known to comfort and appropriately focus children who are on the autism spectrum, as well as many other children who occasionally find themselves overwhelmed or otherwise impacted by traumatic events.

We are grateful for Elizabeth taking the time to help teach us about this important topic!
