WATERCRAFT TAKING ON WATER IN DELAWARE RIVER - Delaware River

New Castle County Communications alerted Port Penn, Delaware City & Lower Alloways Creek, NJ along with Delaware State Police Aviation for watercraft sinking in the Delaware River. Initial reports that it was a 52’ cabin cruiser was sinking off of Artificial Island with 3 persons on board.

Marine units quickly responded to the reported location along with the United States Coast Guard. The vessels crew had sent up multiple flares to alert rescue boats of their location. 15 Marine 1 noticed a flare in the area of Reedy Island and reported the change in location to all units.

The crews members from the vessel "Appollo" had abandoned ship onto an inflatable life raft. 15 Marine 1 with assistance of Delaware State Police Aviation found the victims just off of Reedy Island. All of the victims were accounted for and taken back to Augustine Beach. The vessel had sunk prior to the arrival of rescue boats. The scene was turned over to the United States Coast Guard and Delaware Marine Police for further investigation.
