Delaware City Fire Company participates in town Christmas Parade - Delaware City

December 20, 2007

Delaware City residents and businesses gathered on Thursday night, December 20th to celebrate the season with caroling, a parade and a Santa Visit. Town residents rode around town at 6PM caroling to Delaware City residents that are shut in. Santa rode around town on Engine 15-4 waving to the town children and inviting them to visit him at the Delaware City Fire Hall following the parade. The parade began approximately at 7:15 with various clubs, businesses and residents participating. The parade was led by The Command Vehicle driven by Chief Jamie Rosseel and President Wally Poppe. Other apparatus in the parade were Engine 155, Ambulance B-15, Engine 154 and a fire prevention float. Once the parade was over, Santa and Mrs. Claus came back to the station to where the towns children were able to tell Santa that they were all good this year and told him what they would like under the tree and in their stockings. Each child was given a juice box, orange and candy cane by the fire company and auxiliary. A fire prevention table was set up with smoke detectors, batteries and literature for a "fire free holiday". Delaware City Fire Company’s float was the brain storm of Ladies Auxiliary Past President Ivy Costango. With her idea and her husband’s (Past Chief Rob Costango) electrical knowledge – the float was a huge success. Member’s and their children rode the float dressed in pajamas and bathrobes under a sign that read “We are dreaming of a fire free Christmas”. The float also served to help support the DVFA’s Wake Up Delaware Campaign by displaying the Wake Up Delaware Sign. A huge thank you goes to Kyle Lester for his help in obtaining the wagon and the tractor for the float. The officer’s would like to thank all members who helped with the parade, either with their presence in the parade or by assisting in getting the equipment (including the float) ready.
