Lighting Strikes - Mariners Watch Development

At 22:36 hours Stations 15, 1&27 and 29 were dispatched for a reported house fire from a lighting strike in the 100 block of Portside Court. Rescue 15 was already responding to assist Stations 3,6,&12 for a House Fire with entrapment in Salem Woods when this alarm was dispatched. Station 27 had previously been dispatched for a Lighting Strike on Starboard Drive at 22:29 hours and 27-5 was responding. 12-8 placed the scene in Salem Woods under control and Rescue 15 re-directed to this alarm and arrived on scene at 22:48 hours. NCCPD was on scene reporting a fire on the roof of 106 and smoke in the house of 108. There was a lighting strike at 102 which was also investigated. Crews made access to the roof area from 15-7 and reported a large hole in the roof from the lighting strike. Interior crews traced the fire to the 2nd floor in the area of a clothes dryer. Crews removed insulation from the attic area and extinguished the fire in the walls on the 2nd floor. Deputy 15 (Finnegan) placed the scene under control at 23:23 hours. Mariners Watch is divided down the middle of Mariners Way for both Delaware City and Volunteer Hose. In total there were 4 reported lighting strikes in the development during the storm.
