The Delaware City Fire Company will be putting in service within the next week or so our new QRS Vehicle. This vehicle and trailer was purchased with the help of the City of Delaware City, former Mayor Stan Green and Police Chief / Acting Town Manager Dave Baylor, Delaware City Refinery Public Relations and Community Relations Lisa Lindsey, State Senator Nicole Poore, State Senator Bruce Ennis, State Representative Valerie Longhurst, State Representative Earl Jaques, County Councilman Bill Bell, County Councilman George Smiley and County Council President Karen Hartley-Nagle.
The Chiefs Office presented the need for this type of vehicle to the Board of Directors and Membership as well as to our State, County and Local Elected Officials and the Delaware City Refinery due to the newly developed Michael Castle Trail, the redevelopment of Fort DuPont and the increasing number of events that are starting to happen within our Fire District as well Delaware City Days, River Town Festival, Blue Grass Festival and 5K events.
The idea for this type of vehicle was brought up after seeing, reviewing and talking with the Good Will Fire Company Career Staff Tim Mullins and Chief David Majewski Jr. as they purchased one previously. Taking the design that Good Will developed the wheels were put into motion.
Contact was made with ASAP Off Road Specialty Vehicles of Midvale, Ohio. With some minor alterations to Good Will's design and receiving the funding from the above mentioned we were able to order our QRS Vehicle on March 4, 2019.
QRS-15 is a ASAP Medstat 500 Base Unit on a 6 wheel Polaris Chassis powered by at 65 HP 800cc gas liquid-cooled [4 stroke, 8 valve electronic fuel injected] power plant On Demand Four Wheel Drive, power steering, air conditioned / heater with a 4000 watt generator with 110/120 volt outlets and 4500 pound electronic winch that can be mounted on the front or the rear of the unit.
The unit will have all the necessary EMS equipment including an Automated External Defibrillator. As was mentioned we are looking to place this unit in service within the week as we continue training our Members, Career Staff and Part Time Staff.
Special thank you to Deputy Chief Allan MacKenzie, his father Richard MacKenzie and member Patrick Reeder who drove out to the factory in Ohio to bring it back to the Station.
The decal package was completed by Phil Garappolo of Fitch Graphics & Design of Middle River, MD.
Again, the Officers and Members of the Delaware City Fire Company would like to offer our sincere gratitude to everyone who assisted us in purchasing this vehicle.
