On Saturday, December 7th, the Delaware City and Port Penn Fire Companies along with the American Red Cross went door to door in parts of both Communities installing smoke detectors to those who needed them.
Assistant Chief Brian Reeder contacted Representatives from the American Red Cross after reading about the efforts of the City of Wilimington Fire Department doing the same in the City.
Once the initial details were completed, Assistant Chief Reeder contacted Chief Frank Schoeffler of the Port Penn Fire Company and the plans were expanded to include Port Penn.
Members of both fire companies and members of the Delaware City Ladies Auxiliary met in the parking lot with the Red Cross Officials Saturday morning at Station 15 to break out into groups.
Over the next 4 hours, over 30 members were able to install 132 smoke detectors in Port Penn, Delaware City Mobile Home Park, Harbor Estates, Hamilton Place Apartments and Polktown.
We are working on scheduling another date to complete the rest of the Delaware City area. Thank you to all the members and their families who helped us out!!!!!
