At 16:57 hours on Friday, January 27, 2012, station 15 was dispatched for a fire alarm at the Arlon Inc. at 1100 Governor Lea Road. A minute later, the Fireboard received a call from the premise advising a fire in the exhaust vent.
Station 15, Engine 12, Engine 32 and Rescue 6 was re-dispatched at 16:59 hours for L3*Commercial Structure Fire. 15-7 under the command of Assistant Chief Neel responded with a crew of 4 at 17:01 hours. 15-7 arrived at 17:06 hours and 3 minutes later advised a working alarm. Stations 29 for an engine, Station 28/32 for ladder and Station 18 for the RIT assignment was dispatched along with B4 and Medic 2D.
Chief Rosseel arrived at 17:09 hours and assumed Arlon Command. Crews from 15-7, 15-5 and 12-4 reported to the interior to extinguish the fire that had started in an overhead exhaust system.
Due to the metal structure of the building, interior crews were having communication issues with the 800 MGZ radio system resulting in Command advising the Fireboard at 17:29 hours that "Talk - 1" would be utilized by the interior crews and monitored by Command.
At 17:52 hours, Command initiated a PAR Check including face to face checks with the EMS units on scene. Interior crews reported that there was extension in the the ceiling / roof area and that the fire was extinguished. Command placed the scene under control at 18:05 hours.
Engine 20-5 and 24-3 covered station 15. At 18:24 hours, station 15, both cover-up engines, engine / rescue 29, engine 27, ladder 1 and rescue 28-6 (29-4, 27-5, 1-7 and 28-6 responded from the fire scene at Arlon, Inc.) were dispatched for a L3*Gas Leak Residential Multiple on Clinton Street. 24-3 arrived on scene and was advised by the Fireboard that broken gas pipe in the basement. Engine 20-5 stood by the hydrant. Chief Brown (24-8) advised that the gas main in the basement was shut off, placing the scene under control at 18:37 hours holding 24-3, 20-5 and 29-4. Delmarva Gas was notified for a broken gas line at 18:39 hours. All units cleared this alarm at 19:05 hours.
Station 15 units cleared the Arlon, Inc. alarm at 19:15 hours.
