On Saturday, October 4th, the Delaware City Fire Company participated in a County wide event. The last 2 pieces of steel from the World Trade Center passed through Delaware on it's way to Quantico, VA to honor the seventeen Marines that were killed on 9/11. Marine Lieutenant Mick Pollinger and Firefighter Lew Epright took 15-7 to the overpass at Route 1 and I-95 along with Engine 23-5. Fire Police Officer Bill Sahm [159A] coordinated the 18 Fire Police from various stations through out NCC. These 18 Officers assisted the Delaware State Police in closing access to I-295 Westbound and I-95 Southbound as well as run a rolling road block behind the mile long entourage. The steel arrived in Delaware at approximately 11:45am and was saluted by apparatus from companies throughout NCC on every overpass between the Memorial Bridge and the MD state line. An awesome sight!
While on this display both 23-5 and 15-7 assisted Christiana on a MVC involving a Motorcycle that was participating in the ride. A-23 and Medic 3A transported 1 to the Christiana ER.
Special thanks to both Mick and Lew for taking 15-7 for this display.
