Passing of Fire Police Emeritus Francis Walker

October 10, 2014

On October 7, 2014, Francis Walker passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.  Francis was born on July 6, 1928.  Francis served in the Army until his honorable discharge.  He then worked for Press's Esso for many years and then as a police officer.  He retired from the State of Delaware as a Security Guard at the Governor Bacon Health Center.

Franny joined the Delaware City Fire Company in 1947.  He served proudly as an Active Life Member for his 67 years of service.  He served on many committees and on the Board of Directors.  He served as 1st Lieutenant of Rescue in 1958.  During his years of service he served as one of our Fire Police for close to 50 years.  He held the position of 15-9 [Head of the Fire Police] for close to 45 years being appointed to that position by 10 different Fire Chiefs.

In 1999, Francis was given the title of Fire Police Emeritus by the Fire Company for his many years of service.

Francis took his position as one of Fire Policeman seriously as well as being a member of the Delaware City Fire Company.  He could be seen walking around the outside of the station picking up trash and would take care of the 3 flag poles during any inclement weather.

Francis went to Chief Jamie Rosseel late in 2013 and advised him that he was going to be stepping down as 15-9 due to health reasons.  Chief Rosseel advised him that when he felt up to it he could still respond as one of our Fire Policeman.

Francis was loved by everyone in our Fire Company.

Services will be held on Monday, October 13th in the Memorial Hall of the Delaware City Fire Company, 815 5th Street, Delaware City.

Viewing for family and friends will be from 10:00AM til Noon.  Funeral service will start at Noon with interment at the Delaware City Cemetary in the 700 Block of Clinton Stree, Delaware City.
