Sealcoat Vehicle on Fire - Route 1 Southbound

At 13:30 hours, the New Castle County Communications Center dispatched stations 15 and 4&24 for a reported car and trailer on fire. Engine 15-4 with Chief Rosseel responded and arrived on scene with a commericial truck carrying Sealcoat Material and Equipment fully involved. The tank on the back on the truck was a tank full of sealcoat (tar) material and both pressure safety valves were released. The trailer had equipment and another tank that was also fully involved. Chief Rosseel had Route 1 Command and requested a Foam Unit from the Valero Refinery. Engine 34-1 (Fire Inspector Bennett) and 34-8 (Chief Netsch) responded. Crews from 15-4 and 4-5 placed 1 line in service each. Engine’s 15-5 and 24-3 were used for water supply. Command requested for a DNREC Officer respond due to the tar runoff on the side of the road. Route 1 Southbound was totally shutdown by DCFC Fire Police and TMC. Command placed the scene under control at 14:10 hours. Scene was tunred over to DSP.
