HazMat - Contained - (61C1C) - River Road

Station 15 was dispatched for a Hazmat - Contained at 11:39 hours in the area of 1599 River Road. Rescue 15 under the command of Career Staff Sam Boots responded at 11:47 hours. Reports were received of a tractor-trailer leaking unknown substance between Red Lion Creek and Hamburg Road. Additional reports advised the tractor trailer had left the area. Rescue 15 arrived on scene at 11:54 hours and requested for Zone Fire Police. DNREC and TMC were notified at the time of dispatch to respond. At 11:57 hours, Command advised there was no need for the Hazmat Team or additional resources as they were still evaluating. DNREC-2 arrived on scene at 12:04. At 12:52 hours, Command notified that they were awaiting Soda Ash to neutralize the situation. The product turned out to be Sulfuric Acid. B-15 transported 4 patients from a nearby DP&L Sub Station who were part of a construction crew there to CER for evaluation. Command turned the scene over to DNREC at 14:25 hours. Route 9 from Wrangle Hill Road to Hamburg Road was closed down for several hours overnight as crews cleaned up the spill. Responding Units: R-15, B-15, TSU-15, 15-9, 15-9C, 34-8B, DNREC, DSP, DelDot.
