DVFA Fallen Firefighters Monument Ceremony - Dover, DE

On Sunday, June 14th, the DVFA held the Fallen Firefighter Ceremony at the DFA Monument in honoring our fallen sister Michelle Smith. Also being honored on this day was Deputy Chief Wayne Steen Sr. of the Mill Creek Fire Company.
On a beautiful summer day about 50 members and family members of the Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary were on hand for the name unveiling ceremony.
The introductions were done by one of our Honorary Members Mike Rush. DVFA Chaplain Robert Hudson gave the Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by DVFA President Warren Jones.
The Keynote Speaker was Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn who was running behind schedule so Secretary of Homeland Security Lewis Schiliro filled in until the Lt. Governor arrived.
Chief Jamie Rosseel addressed the crowd in regards to the legacy that Michelle left behind.
The family of Wayne Steen and Michelle’s daughter Emily Burge did the unveiling of the names. Once the unveiling was done, Emily addressed the crowd thanking them for being in attendance.
Chief Rosseel presented a bouquet of flowers to Emily once the Ceremony was over.
Gina Miller sang her song Tree of Life and Amazing Grace.
The Officers and Members of the Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary offer our sincere heartfelt thank you to the DVFA and the DVFA Monument Committee and any others who contributed to a wonderful ceremony.
