Annual DVFA Conference and Parade - Dover, DE

During the 15th Annual DVFA Conference, 3 members of the fire company were recognized. First during the opening ceremonies, Life Member Robert C. Janiszewski was recognized with a 50 Year Resolution. The resolution will be presented to Life Member Janiszewski at our Company Meeting. EMS Supervisor John Atkinson was recognized by the Delaware State Fire Chiefs Association along with the crew from the Five Points Fire Company for their actions on December 20, 2008 during the accident that claimed the life of our member Michelle Newton Smith. Fire Policeman Jasper Lakey was recognized by the Delaware State Police as the New Castle County Fire Policeman of the Year. Also during the Conference, Vice President Mike McMichael and EMS Supervisor John Atkinson were installed as Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Delaware State Ambulance Association respectfully. On Saturday after participating in the Annual Parade, the Fire Company won the following trophies: Best Appearing Ambulance – B15 Best Appearing Engine – 155 (2nd Year in a row) 2nd Best Appearing Marching Unit without Music 2nd Best Appearing Color Guard 2nd Best Appearing Fire Prevention Float Our Ladies Auxiliary won the 6th Best Appearing Ladies Marching Unit trophy. Overall it was a good conference for the Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary. Special thank you to the Career Staff and members for their hard work in preparing the apparatus for their 1st place finishes, the members and Ladies Auxiliary who worked very hard on the fire prevention float for our 2nd place finish. Thank you to the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association of Pennsylvania for covering our local while our members attended the parade. Congratulations to all on a great job and showing!
