At 23:31 hours, Station 15 was dispatched for a fuel spill at the BP Gas Station, 906 S. DuPont Highway, Tybouts Corner. Earlier in the day, both the gas and diesel fuel tanks were cross contaminated due to offloading to the wrong tanks.
Company was on scene pumping out the tanks and lines for cleaning when a line was disconnected from the tractor trailer and an unknown amount of fuel was spilled onto the ground and into a retention basin. Another company was standing by to purge the lines and change out the fuel filters acted quickly to prevent the spill from getting into the retention pond.
Rescue Engine 15 arrived on scene and requested HazMat 30 and DNREC. HazMat 30 arrived and cleaned up the fuel on the ground. DNREC was advised by 158 that they could respond out during the day time as not that much fuel made it into the retention pond.
Scene was turned back over to the onsite cleaning company and management.
