Cadet Training - Hose Lines and Ladders - Delaware City
February 03, 2013
On Sunday afternoon the Cadets kicked off their 2013 in-house training with Evolutions on Hose Lines and Ladders. Career Staff Ken Getty instructed a class of six assisted by Rescue Lt Hall and Interior Firefighters Shoemaker and Pitaway simulating a live fire ground operation. After a brief orientation on the type of company Delaware City is designated by the Fireboard, the cadets donned their turnout gear and boarded 15-4 and 15-7. The apparatus left the engine bay and circled around the back of the building. 15-4 laid out 5” from the hydrant across the back pad. 15-7 passed the back pad to the side of the building. The evolution included a simulation of a door pop on the outside door to the second floor of the station as well as a hose team bringing the line to the second floor bunk room.
After the hose was repacked onto the truck, the ladder instruction began on the side of the building. This included terminology of ladders, the different kinds of ladders and throwing ladders at a scene. Eventually each cadet had the opportunity to scale the 70’ stick on top of 15-7.
This was a great beginning to the training schedule and a fun-filled afternoon. Thanks to Ken Getty, Lance Shoemaker, Dave Hall, Jamie Watson and Grant Pitaway for their assistance with the day’s training. After all of the gear and apparatus were stored, the Cadets had portions of their books signed then enjoyed pizza and wings in the hall before going home for the day. The next training evolution will be on Sunday, February 17 at Noon.
