Fireboat 15 Participates in Pennsylvania Coast Day

September 07, 2013

We departed Delaware City at 10:15am on a beautiful September day and headed up the Delaware River with Bower's Beach Fireboat close behind.  Fireboat 1-5 arrived at the Penn's Landing Marina at approximately 11:30am in plenty of time for the Noon start of the festivities.  Coast Day is an educational event for kids and families.  The events included Free kayak and swan pedal-boat rides, Free Ferry Rides, The Pennsylvania Tug Boat Festival, Touring Delaware River Fireboats and an oil-spill response boat, Face painting, prizes and arts and crafts.  We were berthed at the sout end of the Penn's Landing Marina amongst fireboats from Bower's Beach, Wilmington, Camden and Philadelphia.  Visitors had an opportunity to board each of the vessels and learn about the various aspects of each companies response abilities.  At two different times during the day we all fired up our water pumps and had multiple streams of water spraying across the marina thruway.  The event had approximately 2,000 visitors.  On our way out of the port, both Fireboat 1-5 and [Wilmington] Fireboat 7 displayed their awesome water power in the Delaware River adjacent to the Independence Seaport Museum.  Shortly thereafer we departed PA for Delaware.  Special thanks to the crew of Ed Kalinowski, Jim Watson, Alan MacKenzie and Bill Sahm for a great showing of Delaware City Fire Company.  On Sunday October 6, we'll be participating in Coast Day in Lewes, DE.  Please stop by and check out the boat between 11am and 5pm.
